Light From a Broken Vessel

"For God, who said, 'Light shall shine out of darkness,' is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves..." -- II Corinthians 4:6-7

The "jars of clay" passage is very well known to modern Christians, but as I read it this morning, I realized just how sharp the contrast is. So I made a picture that described it. Crumbling, deteriorating, broken, and fragile earthen vessels carrying a treasure that shines brighter than the sun. So rare, it's never been owned by kings. So precious it has been sought after for all of mankind's time on this earth.

This piece won a blue ribbon in the small local fair of 2006.
